Blackjack

Blackjack is the game where your decisions have the largest effect on the outcome. A player guessing costs themselves roughly 2% of every dollar wagered. The same player using the correct chart costs themselves about 0.43% at a good table. Nothing else on the casino floor rewards fifteen minutes of study that well.

That 0.43% is not a typo and not a promise. It is still a loss. But it is a quarter of the price of playing by instinct.

Before you sit down, check one thing. Find the payout for a natural printed on the felt. If it says 3:2, the game is worth playing. If it says 6:5, the house edge roughly quadruples — from about 0.43% to about 1.82% — and correct strategy cannot recover it. Walk to another table.
